“Peace”, Soka Gakkai International (SGI) President Daisaku Ikeda emphasizes, “is not just the absence of war.” He defines a truly peaceful society as one in which everyone can maximize their potential to lead fulfilling lives free from threats to their dignity. Genuine peace can only be established on the basis of respect for the dignity of human life, on recognition of our shared humanity.
The “Run for Peace 2009” is a non-competitive event organized by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (Selangor branch) to promote and create a peaceful and healthy existence in our multi-racial society. The event has been held every two years since 2005.
In response to SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s call on creating a “Culture of Peace”, a concept that rejects violence and conflicts by having dialogues between individuals, groups and countries, this event strives to create awareness and understanding of the importance of developing a culture of peace within ourselves and our community.
